Update of the Past Week Or So [Jan. 24th, 2005|01:02 pm]
I think it's probably a good idea to get some info on the last week and a bit, for everyone else.

  • Moving has gone reasonably well. I still have stuff in boxes, and I suspect that some stuff will stay in boxes for a while, like all my non-game cube consoles. I simply have no other place to put them, and I have no place to connect them to the TV, until I go to an electronics place and find extension hubs.
  • Did first shopping trip for house on Monday. An interesting experience, and a bit scary with noone to help me out. I almost wished that Mel had come with me, but then I couldn't have paid for stuff if she had (she probably would not have let me.)
  • After Bec & Mark's party on Saturday night, J.Lo basically stated to me that O-LAN was a possibility, if I could supply a venue, and so spent time on monday and tuesday working on venue hopping. Our first choice is technically free, but heavily congested, since enrollments finishes on the last day or O-week, and noone has any idea whether they'll be packing up or anything on the day. Other options have other downfalls. J.Lo has been scouting out stuff, if there's a way, we have the will.
  • On a related note, have been honing my skills on Super Smash Bros. Melee. If O-LAN is to take place, naturally we shall be having console tournaments, which naturally means that I should finish unlocking all the characters. I have only Mewtwo and Mr. Game and Watch to go, and Mewtwo is really sucky to unlock (You have to clock a lot of hours of multiplayer gameplay). I unfortunately have only myself to apply to this task, so it will take forever and a day. Anyone willing to make a day of spending time to unlock the last two characters?
  • I miss Lara.

Then, there was the ARCANACON!!!

  • I decided not to Get Wrecked this time round. Unfortunately, due to me being slack and deciding to lift with other people, I got the equivalent of getting wrecked, without all the extra games (I was almost every day in first session, out after last session). I only got up an hour or so ago. (this doesn't mean much, BTW).
  • First game I played was [info]zae's game, Semi-transparent Mirrors called Facts. Now Zae, please take this in the spirit it's given, but you really needed some playtesting. There was a lot of basic stuff that wasn't in that game, and I suspect a playtest would have helped tremendously in that regard. If you want me to give a full run-down, feel free to e-mail me, because I don't want it to look like I'm totally slagging your game here.
  • Next up, The Greatest American Tragedy, a six-hour freeform. Man oh man, it was one of the most exhausting games of the con. I had a lot of fun, but it really did mimic the whole movie process, and that's a meat-grinder. I think I got out of most of the work, somehow, as my character decided to say "screw this" after the first scene was shot, and spent most of the rest of the freeform being a publicity whore, helping with the advertising work. And I got a trophy, for Best Director Mostly Off-Screen, which was surprising since I only did a scene and a couple of commercials.
  • Trivia Night was afterwards, and was a pleasant diversion. We did not win, and we got more chocolate than any other table, so we felt it was mission accomplished on our end.
  • Space Pirate: Pirates in Space! was next. The Tabletop session was fun and funky, and I thought it was pretty neat, especially since we had to take the crew with mostly non-pirate voices. This proved to be a most excellent advantage in the next session, which was the freeform session, mostly because it meant I was one of the few people who left that session not wanting a double pack of lozenges. Due to some unfortunate problems at the beginning of the session, however, my rather staid english accent had to be replaced with an array of speech impediments, which of course meant that by the end of the session my tongue was quite numb!
  • Miss Elizabeth's Grand Tour was hands-down the highlight of the con for me. Excellent session, delicious ginger biscuits (which I now have the recipe for, huzzah!), and two players who took to their roles like fish to water - it was like the two players were born victorian women, and occaisionally played real-life people. I suspect I'd picked the wrong character, (I had picked the dragon lady, Mrs. Braithwaite) because I really couldn't do it justice. Still, that entire session made my con. Beautiful.
  • The post-con party was nice, had the general ambience of a Korner party, as always. Managed to get away with very little money being spent (mainly by staying away from the cocktail bar, even at happy hour rates those things are bloody expensive!). Cafe Krifi has really nice and excellent food, I highly recommend it for anyone going that way.

And now, I'm here, sitting in my dressing gown, typing all this out, finally having a free day up my sleeve. My first load of laundry is done, so I should probably go and hang it out and put the second load in. Catch you later people!
